Congratulations to Jim Bodington on being awarded a Russell J. and Dorothy S. Bilinski Dissertation Fellowship, which has been made available to UNM through a generous gift from the Bilinski Education Foundation!  The fellowship will provide Jim $31,000 of funding (from May 2017 until July 2018) to work on and defend his dissertation.  In the project, Jim develops a framework for the understanding of depression which draws on resources in contemporary philosophical and psychological research, existential phenomenology, and poststructuralist feminist theory. He argues that a robust and careful account of depression requires attention to the lived experience of the depressed person as well as an understanding that such an account always proceeds from a testimony forged in a clinical setting and under a diagnostic label which are attended by formative and causally efficacious power relations.
